Oh My God This Facebook Madness

Oh my god! Yes, another friend just disabled their Facebook account! Why is this a big deal? It shouldn't be. The big deal was said "friend" (are we still friends if we are not friends on Facebook?) had merely two hours prior than that wrote a note and tagged a bunch of us in it. What the note was about I would never know ("never" being until he re-activate his account again, just like last time). So we came home from a weekend outing, because it's the Labor Day LONG weekend. Hubby decided to check email on his phone while I put the DVD into our PS3, then freaked out because he couldn't read this note that he was tagged in. Good god, you are not being nominated for the Nobel prize here, okay? Whatever it was, I'm sure it's tedious and silly. Then he proceeded to instantly text this said friend about what happened. Really? Is that really necessary? It was like a knee jerk reflex that he must found out that minute what happened.

Said friend's response was, "I am spending too much time on Facebook. I feel that I should be spending my time on more constructive things." No kidding. What I don't understand is this: have these people no self-control at all? I, too, am fed up with all the tedious posts -- "I am at [location] doing [activities] with [individuals]." And that concerns me how? Or worse -- "I am listening to [a specific song]." Well, that's nice. Even worse -- "[Lyrics of a song that I have never heard of.]" Point? People? And the absolute worse -- "[blah blah blah, if you agree with this, repost.] Worse than the absolute worse -- "I know many won't even care enough to report." WTF people!!

But I'm not the Facebook police, people are entitled to post what they want on a social network, and it's my prerogative to read/not read. It's a free country, people. First amendment right, okay? They are allowed to post what they want (while adhering to whatever policies Facebook has, of course), but that does not mean you have to read every single word! I fail to see how Facebook can be a time sink unless you compulsively must read every post by your 300 some odd number friends! I only read intermittenly, usually when I am bored, and only read about 5 entries till I lose my attention span. Quite frankly, only 1 friend posts funny things that I care to read about. Otherwise, I read CNN finance updates. The rest are, quite frankly, simply not worth my time. So I spend maybe 10 minutes a day on it, tops. I spend more time checking email.

Second, to disable one's account right after one just posted a note and tagged everyone. Ugh, that's just attention seeking. I've linked my blog to Facebook before, and I felt that I'm forcing what I write onto others. Worse when you tagged others, so now they have to look at what it was that you wrote about them. At the very minimum, put your blog URL under your information. If they care enough, they will go read it, maybe even read it through their RSS reader, otherwise, there really is no point is shoving it down people's throat, even if you are an outstanding writer.

Third, said friend had a common friend with us before who also periodically delete "friends" and/or deactivate their account. If there's anything to be learned from that, it is -- by the third time you try to add someone as friend, they are done with you.

All in all, this is just a new way of screaming for attention. If you don't get rid of your TV because you are spending too much time watching TV or getting rid of your bed because you feel that you sleep too much, there is no real need to disable your Facebook account. Just STOP LOGGING IN!

Crazy New Taxes Laws

I'm really not sure what I should think of some of these new Texas laws. Can I go back to being gleefully ignorant? :S

I'm also not sure which is worse: George W. Bush or a president who would pull out his own gun a shoot a coyote while jogging with his dog... at least he jogs, I guess...

Pier 1 Imports

I swear, the last time I owned a house and went to shop at Pier 1 Imports, my thought was, "This is so not my style. I don't want to have any of their stuff inside my house." For some odd reason, now that I'm in my second house, I just want to bring half the store home!! :(

First, there's this Outdoor Swingasan Chair. (Please go on sale, pretty please. >_<) The chair alone is $269.95. And I don't think most people will have a specific way to hang it up, so you will also have to buy the stand from Pier 1 Imports, which costs another $129.95. >_<

And I also wanted badly to bring this home with me, with a fuzzy cushion, even though I have no idea where I am going to put it:

It is lucky that my car can't fit all of them inside. >_<

Driverless Car - BMW

The Driver Is This BMW's Co-Pilot

Ooooh, driverless car. When oh when will they be commercially available? A BMW is too expensive. :S A hybrid one will be nice, and have special driverless car only freeway please, otherwise stupid people will just take us out. :S

Google Plus Is For Those Who Want To Use Their Real Names

Google Plus Is For Those Who Want To Use Their Real Names

Um, yeah, that's cool and all that. We all wish we can stand on a soapbox and say how we are who we are, but how many people actually behave the same regardless of who they are in front of? For starters, we even behave slightly differently in front of different friends, let along friends/acquaintances/other relations, i.e. kids, relatives, employers, employees, colleagues, HR!! Everybody in this day and age should know that certain subjects are just not work appropriate. They are not wrong, just not appropriate. And I am not talking about R-rate subject, just, you know, one's political viewpoint, religious belief. What if I am gay and prefer not to share that part of my life with, just about anyone? Sometimes, a line really should be drawn between work life and personal life (or school, or sports). And that line should be respected.

One should always remember that, once your real name is tied to everything, i.e. logging into CNN's website and recommending an article, it's not just there for your friends to see, it's for the rest of the world to see, including future perspective employer/clients. And that could come back and haunt you. Sometimes, a little privacy really is not such a bad idea.

Hurraine Irene

Doesn't really affect us in the west coast, not directly anyway, but since it happened during my time, I thought it's worth a mention.

Halloween Tree - So Cute Yet So Expensive ;__;

Jim Shore Frightful - Halloween Tree With Ornaments Figurine

Ahhhh, I want I want. If only it's not $99.99. ;__;

Fickle

Less than an hour after starting this new blog, I've already changed the title from "This Godless Woman" to "This Godless Shopaholic Woman".... How fickle is that?

Well, in my defense, I changed the name for good reasons. I figured other than my general opinions, I am going to post a bunch of links/pictures to stuff that I've acquired or want to acquire... :)

Sock Monster & USB Cables

Once upon a time people wonder where their socks disappear to. As funny as it may sound, it is very true that socks just get lost in laundry. Way back when when I was still naive and impressionable, I thought there's an explanation for this. I was using the public washer/dryer at the time, so of course the most sensible explanation was: one or two probably got stuck to the side of the washer or dryer and was missed. Now that I have my own washer and dryer, this strange, inexplicable phenomena continues. This has to go up there along with chicken first or egg first, it's not meant to be answered.

If only socks are the only things I manage to lose.... then there's my nail clippers. Yes, you heard me right, nail clippers. I somehow manage to lose those also. They are so cheap I just keep buying them, one time when I moved I found 7 pairs, which also spontaneously disappeared. I have since bought 3 more... but now there's still only 2 floating around somewhere in the house. Aliens, perhaps?

Followed closely after that mystery is the USB cables.... USB cables for the ipod, micro USB for the cell phones... first, it's almost impossible to not buy extras nowadays. Who doesn't need one at home, one at work, one in the car, and preferrably one in your purse, if you are a woman (or a man purse, we don't discriminate). I thought I had enough but now a few had gone missing also. ;__; Finally got fed up and bought a bunch, and I mean a BUNCH (bundle of 5 for the ipod and 3 micro for the cell phone), on eBay. Let's hope these will last a while.

Next on the shopping list: a gazillion USB extension cables. Thank God for eBay. :) :) :)

First Post - Introduction

Even though this blog is called The Godless Woman, and that I am an atheist, I, however, do not intend to dedicate this blog solely for the discussion of my religious viewpoint, or lack thereof. I merely pick the name because I am an atheist, and that I am random. And that I had blogs prior to this with atheism rants, but since the advent of Facebook, those blogs are no longer as anonymous as I had originally hoped. And subsequently I had to give us this handle that I have been using for years and grew very fond of. Damn the age of social networking.

Once upon a time I also have a blog and a job that allowed me to put in 3-4 entries a day. Those were the good old times. The blog, much like this one, is about anything, everything, and nothing, but, overtime, it some how gained some traction and had some hits. But those days were gone, now I just wish I have the time to sit down and write what I want to write, and have something to write about, and not worry about who is going to see it.
