Google Plus Is For Those Who Want To Use Their Real Names

Google Plus Is For Those Who Want To Use Their Real Names

Um, yeah, that's cool and all that. We all wish we can stand on a soapbox and say how we are who we are, but how many people actually behave the same regardless of who they are in front of? For starters, we even behave slightly differently in front of different friends, let along friends/acquaintances/other relations, i.e. kids, relatives, employers, employees, colleagues, HR!! Everybody in this day and age should know that certain subjects are just not work appropriate. They are not wrong, just not appropriate. And I am not talking about R-rate subject, just, you know, one's political viewpoint, religious belief. What if I am gay and prefer not to share that part of my life with, just about anyone? Sometimes, a line really should be drawn between work life and personal life (or school, or sports). And that line should be respected.

One should always remember that, once your real name is tied to everything, i.e. logging into CNN's website and recommending an article, it's not just there for your friends to see, it's for the rest of the world to see, including future perspective employer/clients. And that could come back and haunt you. Sometimes, a little privacy really is not such a bad idea.
